If you’re a woman who loves to travel, there’s something to be said about going on trips with your gal pals or like-minded women or a women-only tour. It’s an entirely different experience than going alone, with your significant other, or friends/co-ed groups.
After thorough research and traveling, I’ve discovered the key aspects that make a women-only trip or tour an unforgettable experience.
Mass group travel has it’s place in the world but I enjoy smaller groups. There’s a reason why group travel companies like GAdventures or Intrepid Travel emphasize smaller groups as better. There’s more personalized attention and less to worry about when you’re with a smaller group. Quality accommodations are also easier to find for smaller groups. I also like getting to know all of my travel mates and it’s way easier to forge a closer relationship while seeing the world.
Awesome Tour Leaders & Native Guides
It’s so important to have a well-informed and organized tour leader on your trip. If the tour leader is not confident about leading a group around, you won’t feel comfortable about being led either. I think it’s incredibly important to feel safe and secure on a trip and the tour leader is a very important contributor to this aspect. It’s essential the tour leader knows the country and how to navigate through any issues that arise.
Besides having a great tour leader, I also think native or local guides is a necessity. Having local guides gives you a taste of how local life is in a city or country. You can’t get more authentic than having a local show you around. Locals can also give you insight on their views and opinions on issues in the world. An example is in Vietnam, most locals view Ho Chi Minh as a great leader who united north and south Vietnam whereas people who left Vietnam view him as a horrible communist. I also like the idea of having a local guide to give back to the local economy.
Immersing in the Culture
One of the greatest things about a tour is if they have some activities and experiences that allow the traveler to be immersed in another culture. We’re in an era where people are about the experiental and “living authentic.” That’s why having a native or local guide is essential for travelers to get a taste of the local flavor around them. Instead of just seeing the sights, I think seeing daily life and going to events that only locals go to give the experience a notch above the rest.
Many people and tours make this mistake – they try to do too much with less time. A great women-only tour allows for us to travel slower and by traveling slower, we can take in more things. There is nothing worse than being rushing around and feeling like you saw nothing while trying to see everything.
My best travel experiences is when I see the famous sights but allow myself ample time to just explore as well.
One more aspect to a fantastic women-only tour is if the experience bring connections. This can be done in a variety of ways such as the tour leader knowing all our names. It could be thoughtful activities that allow a lot of group bonding. I love experiences that allow slow and deep conversation over a glass of wine. Perhaps, it’s the incredible luxurious accommodations that we all look forward to after a long day of sightseeing. It’s very special when women create friendships and make memories that last a lifetime. Making memories during traveling is also special because nothing can take it away. It’s an unforgettable moment much of the time.
